MONDAY, AUGUST 9, 2021 ~ BROTHER LYNN GREUTER

In the Scriptures we have days and months given to us which are often just read by without much thought.

But I was taught “every word is important” by a beloved teacher.

With this knowledge, God allows us to take some unusual journeys in the lives of biblical people.

The last text I sent concerning this month of Elul, we witnessed some events in the lives of Haggai, Ezekiel, and Nehemiah.

But there is another man we can follow along in days of his life.

An old man, with a heavy load, and a hard days climb first thing this very morning.

Today Moses heads back up Mt. Sinai carrying two large stones.

A heavy load and daunting task for a young man, let alone an 80 year old.

And, he goes as beforehand, with no lunch bucket and won’t eat for the next 40 days.

In Exodus 34 we read of the events. A full reading of Scriptures allows us to follow the days to come to this day, Elul 1st.

His return trip back down makes him arrive in the camp on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.

It is truly an effort and labor of love as Moses has entered into this morning. He had been given the opportunity to move on without a troublesome bunch of people, but refused to leave them.

This morning, Moses ascended physically and spiritually to achieve a legacy which remains in force today.

A covenant renewal, an encounter in which we find God preserving more knowledge for our benefit and faith.

It was on this journey when God related his Thriteen Atributes of Mercy emanating from his sacred Name.

(Ex.34:6-7 Chumash)

So it is in this season, God chose to show by example, the things we should strive to attain. He is Merciful, Righteous, Compassionate, Slow to Anger, Kind, Truthful, and Forgiving, among other things.

As we examine ourselves this month perhaps these are things we can also work on.

We are all a work in progress. As in every ongoing construction project, some things must be torn down before the rebuilding process can proceed.
