Previously, we found the Elijah message to be an End Times message and, therefore, a message to believers today. This means every aspect of the event should have relevance and help us understand the events going on around us as well as what may be coming.
It needs to be understood, however, the Bible is not a fortune telling book, but instead confirms things.
Alexander the Great is said to be an example of that. Here is how www.jw.org stated it:
The Jewish historian Josephus states that the prophecies of Daniel were shown to Alexander the Great when he entered Jerusalem. This occurred in about 332 B.C.E., more than 150 years before the Maccabean period. Josephus says of the event: “When the book of Daniel was shown to him, in which he had declared that one of the Greeks would destroy the empire of the Persians, he believed himself to be the one indicated.” (Jewish Antiquities, XI, 337 [viii, 5]) History also recounts that Alexander bestowed great favors on the Jews, and this is believed to have been because of what Daniel said about him in prophecy. And so, as we study Elijah and the Mt. Carmel incident, we may see a picture for us today.
That said, let’s have a look at the Northern Kingdom. Yeshua/Jesus met the woman at the well in the Northern Kingdom (Samaria). It should be noted that she and all the leaders were well versed in the Messianic prophecies. Many teach that she was also a woman of low morals because of all the husbands she had. Beyond this, according to an Eddie Chumney study, the number of husbands parallels the number of alliances the Northern Kingdom had had. Notice, they trusted alliances over the Father’s protection.
Could it be that the encounter with this woman is a picture of the Church today? The Church claims to be the bride, therefore “a woman” when mentioned in scripture could be a picture of it. For this to be so, other things in scripture related to the Biblical accounts of the lives people led would also need to be prophetic in nature. One example seeming to prove this concept is found in the same “Woman at the Well” story.
Yeshua/Jesus was in Samaria for two days before returning to Judea. We have seen the scripture stating a day equals 1000 years in God’s eyes. Therefore we might interpret this to mean his return will come at the end of 2000 years. In light of all that is going on, it seems very logical. And oh, by the way (as Monte says it), it was in Samaria where Yeshua/Jesus looked at the fields of grain and stated the harvest was ready and the harvesters were few. Common vernacular is the Church today deals with “the Harvest”. Hmmmm.
More on the Northern Kingdom link to the Church, Jezebel, Elijah and all the players in the story will be coming soon. Right now, there are more loose ends than tied ones here, but you’ll see how then seem to tie up very nicely. Remember, one goal of these blogs is to prompt the reader to study…not just read it over….study! As they used to say on the radio, “Tune in next time to find out what happens.”
