Shalom, chaverim veh mishpachah (Greetings friends and family)!!!
This week’s Torah portion, Naso, (B’midbar/Numbers 4:21-7:89) is the longest parashah of the entire year!!! It contains 176 verses! Normally, Naso means Take like “to take a census” as Moshe/Moses was directed by The Almighty. However it can also mean “Lift, Bear Up, Carry, and/or Elevate. These other meanings are also significant when you consider the following . . .
• The sons of K’hat were to “lift, bear up, carry and take” the sacred items of the Mishkan /(Tabernacle).
• The sons of Gershon were to “lift, bear up, carry and take” the hangings and coverings such as all things of fabric and/or animal hides of the entire Tabernacle structure.
Similarly, from the B’rit Hadashah/Renewed Covenant, Galatians 6:2, Rabbi Sha’ul says we are to take and “bear one another’s burdens – in this way you will be fulfilling the Torah’s true meaning, which the Messiah upholds.”
May we be faithful to “Naso” our brethren (Take and bear one another’s burdens). In doing so, we will be following our Father’s instructions.
Shabbat shalom veh shavuah tov, Batyah
