The last Torah portion and this double Torah portion goes together in so many ways. The last portion, (Pinchas), showed us how, in order to defeat the Zimri and Kozbi of this world, it will take a unified body of Messiah who not only talks the walk; but walks the talk.
We need to stand as a body of Messiah and walk together in His love and work to help each other, not separate and “do our own thing”. We are called, as His body, to do His work (not ours).
In Ephesians 4:1-7 (CJB) “Therefore, I, the prisoner united with the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called. Always be humble, gentle and patient bearing one another in love, and making every effort to preserve the unity the Spirit gives through the binding power of shalom. There is one body and one Spirit, just as when you were called you were called to one hope. And there is one Lord, one trust, one immersion, and one God, the Father of all, who rules over all, works through all, and is in all. Each one of us, however, has been given grace to be measured by the Messiah’s bounty,”
In 1st Corinthians 6:19 (CJB) “Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Ruach HaKodesh who lives inside you, whom you received from God? The fact is, you don’t belong to yourselves, for you were bought with a price. So use your bodies to glorify God”
If we do not keep our word, we continue to search and find fault with each other, does this glorify God? Our tongue is a fire, as James talks about in James 4:1-12 (CJB), which is the haftarah for this Torah portion. The ways of the enemy are to divide, steal, kill and destroy. Can we bridle our tongue and walk together in unity to build up the Body of Messiah?
To break this plague which is killing His people, we must stop finding fault with each other and work together. Unity of His people and having enough self-control to get ourselves out of the way and work together to bring about His Kingdom will thrust a spear through this “spiritual wickedness” and we will walk as one body, as He created us to walk.
