The Elijah Message
Years ago I asked my pastor, “What is the message of Elijah.” His answer was, “It is the restoration of all things.” Then, reading about John the Baptist, we find he was preaching repentance. These two messages don’t quite blend. Yet we are aware the spirit of Elijah was in John and will be manifest again before Yeshua/Jesus returns. That being true, there is another obvious conclusion we can make: If we are close to His return, then the Elijah message is for this time.
And so, what is the Elijah message? Is it the restoration of all things? In a way, maybe it is. Let’s take a look at his message when he faced the priests of Baal at Mt. Carmel.
1Ki 18:21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
We see a couple of things here right off.
First, they are doing two things at once. They were mixing elements worship of the Father with elements of Baal worship. Called “mixed worship”, this is an example of what is called other places as double-mindedness.
Secondly, we see a call for commitment….or, make a decision!
Throughout scripture we find statements like, “He who is not for me is against me.”
And so, to understand the relevance of the Elijah message today, it becomes necessary for the committed believer to study (to show yourself approved). What is Baal worship? How does it manifest today?
The point of this blog is not to tell you all the answers, but to cause you to do your own discovery. The web offers many resources. Just remember, Paul tells us the things of old are a prophecy for those living in the End Times (1 Cor. 10:11).
