TEN DAYS OF AWE
Brother Lynn Greuter
October 6, 2016
In case you have missed it there is a major hurricane coming up the coast of Florida tonight and traveling northward parallel to the east coast. All meteorologists are in agreement that this is an unprecedented event lasting up to forty hours impacting millions of people’s homes farms and businesses.
I use the calendar of the nation Israel to observe the appointed seasons of God. On that calendar the first day of the High Holy Days began last Sunday evening with Rosh HaShannah, the Day of Trumpets. This begins what is known biblically as the Days of Awe, a ten day period between Rosh HaShannah and Yom Kippur the Day of Atonement which is on Oct. 12. It is a time very simply put, that judgments are appointed to the wicked and unrighteous giving them a space of time to repent before the Day of Atonement and the final judgment.
What the “church” does not grasp is that Yom Kippur is not a “Jewish day of forgiveness” and thus not needed for Christianity since Jesus is the atonement for our sins. Rather, let us understand the full aspect of Yom Kippur for what it is. Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement is a National Day. A Day when the entire nation of Israel was, and is, commanded to humble themselves, confess their sins and the sins of the nation before the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Giving honor to their Creator, Protector, Caregiver, and Provider. That means that every person from the High Priest to the lowliest of people approached in reverence the Almighty with fasting and prayers.
With this brief tidbit of information I ask a simple question; What would happen today, right now, if this entire nation were to stop and confess their sins, turn from them in this, or any, season? What if just the congregations of denominations were to stop and do this before and on Yom Kippur? If the belief in God is as real as we say it just might be that God would honor such an action.
But, no, there is the person of Jesus, and thus no need for respecting the Most Holy Day in the Bible.
So let’s take a passage from the book of Hebrews that would seem to confirm this. Hebrews 9:12-14 seems to bolster this opinion saying that the sacrifice of Jesus is better than the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of the red heifer, cleaning our minds to serve the Living God. How very true. Since this is a celebrated fact among Christianity I then pose another question; Why then is Jesus not honored more on this day as the Most Holy Way on the Most Holy Day? Because modern religion is blind, bound by pride and money? Because it contradicts the modern doctrines created to sooth the ears and fill the offering plate? Because “leaders” don’t dare admit they have something to learn and changes to be made in their congregations? Who do they fear most? God or man? For my thoughts there are some churches and leaders that should heed the passages that Judgment must begin at the House of the Lord, that Peter directly referenced Ezekiel, where God placed a mark on those who wept and sighed for the abominations in the Temple and then gave the orders to begin judgment in the Sanctuary. There needs to be a revival alright, and it needs to be in the pastors, bishops, priests, deacons and elders who lead the people.
With this nation’s continual rebellion to the things that are holy, righteous, and true, is it a freak accident that this storm comes at this time? I do not think so. Most of the “church” doesn’t even know the term “Days of Awe”. And, among the Messianic & Hebrew roots crowd the amount of confusion over biblical calendar dates distort evidences that are presented. What signs in the heavens and the earth were seen last month using the alternative calendars that equal this event in America in their Days of Awe? I recall none.
I make no apologies for my statements, I use the calendar that I see God confirming with signs and wonders on the days that are declared in Israel as appointed times. A calendar not astronomically perfect, but one that has repeatedly shown that events happen at the times set in Israel. A calendar that I purchase year after year from Galilee of the Nations.
For some of you I have offended, some will ponder one man’s opinions with an open heart, others will dismiss as religious babble. But my friends, you cannot dismiss what is coming up the coast of America tonight. And I maintain it is exactly on time and it is speaking loudly to those who will open their ears.
In conclusion I use the words of Yeshua who said ‘When I return will I find faith on the Earth?”
Well, will he???
